Our IKEA Mud Kitchen Supply List: What to Know Before You Buy

The crates, bins and accessories from Tiff’s original mud kitchen reel, with dimensions, a budget note and the outdoor-use limitation to check first.

If you came looking for the IKEA pieces from my mud kitchen reel, here is the list in one place. The original setup uses two KNAGGLIG crates, two small TROFAST bins, one large TROFAST bin, a BEKVÄM spice rack, and SUNNERSTA hooks and containers.

The product links and ShopMy collection below contain affiliate links. I may earn a commission if you purchase through them.

The pieces in the original setup

  • Two KNAGGLIG crates. Shop at IKEA. The collection links to the pine box listed at 18 × 12¼ × 9¾ inches. Those are the crate measurements, not the height of an assembled kitchen.
  • Two small TROFAST bins. Shop at IKEA. My reel uses these side by side for separate sand and water areas. The linked small bin is listed at 7¾ × 11¾ × 3⅞ inches.
  • One large TROFAST bin. Shop at IKEA. This goes in the lower section for loose tools. The collection lists the 16½ × 11¾ × 9-inch bin.
  • One BEKVÄM spice rack. This holds smaller supplies on the back panel.
  • SUNNERSTA hooks and containers. These keep utensils within reach. The collection includes the white container; check which hooks your arrangement requires before ordering.

The collection also includes decorative pieces. You do not need to copy the whole collection to create a play area. Check each item’s intended use, dimensions and current availability before buying.

About the budget

The March 2026 reel described the project as under $60. Treat that as the original post’s estimate, not a current shopping total. On September 23, 2026, IKEA listed the linked crate at $19.99, so two crates alone were $39.98 before tax. Bins, accessories, hardware and any delivery charges are additional. Store availability depends on your location.

What the reel does and does not show

The reel describes repurposing slats from one crate for the back panel, joining the crates, and adding the bins and accessories. It does not specify the finished counter height, fastener sizes, anchoring method or long-term weather performance. This supply list is not a complete construction plan or an age-rated toy recommendation.

Already have an outdoor play area?

You can browse the kids and play collections without buying a new structure. For another theme, see the Tiny Bakers’ Guild setup from my original reel. Choose materials for the children using them and keep pretend food separate from snacks.
